Project
involved the initial installation of an elaborate
survey system to monitor movements of existing
structures and installed site hoarding to ensure
required minimum clearances were maintained in
order to ensure uninterrupted service of the existing
subway system's Yonge line southbound track prior
to the removal of the existing unstable 300 metre
crib wall and the installation of a new cast-in-place
retaining wall structure to support the Davisville
Yard tail track. As the existing soil conditions
were unstable and unsuitable in nature, the design
called for the installation of a series of caisson
and battered pile foundations to support the new
300 metre retaining wall. The project was phased
with some work completed during off hours in order
to maintain uninterrupted subway service.
